Casting Call For Voice Actors

Sci Fi Comedy Audio Play

A scripted sci fi comedy podcast, this is a two actor story depicting the adventures of a programmer and a capricious, fully sentient AI personality who drags him into a series of unlikely predicaments. Fast paced and lighthearted banter energize this story of a hapless human and technology gone wild.

We're currently auditioning for the AI personality (female lead). This actor will also voice a few other minor characters.

Previous voice acting experience is less important than having the right voice / personality for the characters.

Character Breakdown

AI

Young to middle aged woman, happy, upbeat and energetic, whose naïve enthusiasm often leads to trouble.

Start with the well-intentioned but somewhat controlling S.A.R.A.H. from Eureka (2006), mix in the chaos caused by an impetuous and excitable Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie (1965), then season with a bit of contemporary but good natured snarkiness, charm and wit.

Sometimes wise and all knowing, other times as childish and impulsive as R2D2, AI drives the story. The banter is often at the programmer's expense, but always in a positive spirit, much like two old friends poking each other with a stick. There may be trouble, but it's all in good fun.

Additional Minor Characters

Corporate Voice Response Menu

The voice of a calm, professional, "Please press one to continue" phone system.

Tech Support

A stereotypical, heavily accented but highly competent Indian female.

Promotion Team

We're also looking for people who are interested in marketing and promotion, both for this show and others the studio produces. Here are the qualities we're interested in.

  • Knows how to create a buzz via social media and any other means when there’s zero budget.
  • Is available for weekend in-person meetings at our Canton, GA studio.
  • Has excellent communication skills.
  • Promptly responds to emails / messages.
  • Has leadership skills and the ability to manage the team (optional).

Previous experience is less important than skills and reliability.

Compensation

We're ex-pros with day jobs who do this sort of thing for fun so there's no pay, but high quality audio can be provided for your reel.

The use of our recording studio is also available to cast / crew / staff for personal projects.

Auditions And Recording

To bring out the best in timing and interaction, actors will perform together. Consequently, all recording sessions will be done locally in our studio. Both auditions and tracking will be done on weekends to avoid after work traffic.

Happy Dragon is a comfortable, pro quality home studio for music, podcast and video projects. Feel free to peruse pictures or geek out over gear to see what it's like to record here.

We're located in Canton near the Airport Rd. exit of 575. As a point of reference, that's 30 minutes up 575 from Marietta. Before responding for an audition, please take the time to check the location on the map and verify that it's a realistic drive for you to make on weekends. We value reliability.

Interested?

Beyond acting talent, our only requirements are that you're between 21 - 45, reliable, and are a nice person to work with.

Sides and character notes will be provided.

When responding, please include your audio / video reel if you have one, along with any other relevant promo material.

If you're the droid we're looking for and this sounds like your idea of fun, please contact us.

We look forward to working with you.

With a collection of broadcast misfits including a spacy idealist, a prosperity pitchman, an aspiring news anchor and a cult guru with a fondness for explosives, David and Karen struggle to keep their weekly talk show, Self Help Television, on the air.
